Global Leadership Summit: Andy Stanley

I’m going to be honest… when Andy Stanley speaks, I have a hard time taking notes. He has a way of communicating that sucks me in, and doesn’t let go. His message this afternoon did that to me yet again. He started off talking about Matthew 16:18, and how Jesus was clear that the ekklesia was not going to be overcome by anything, or anyone. Over the next thirty minutes or so, Andy drove this home, and made it clear that when Jesus said he was going to build his church, he meant it.

A couple things that stuck out to me:

  • Jesus spoke about building a gathering of people, a congregation… not a place or a building.
  • The central teaching in the Book of Acts was not “we believe something is true” but “we believe that something happened.”
  • You will never do anything more significant with your life than serving the local church.

What I love about Andy’s teaching is it is simple, it is powerful, and it is centered around one point: Jesus is serious about this church thing, and He will make sure it succeeds.

We just need to decide if we are on board with His plan or not.
